Internship

Internship

IB internship (cohort 2024/2025)

International Business - Students who are doing their third/fourth year at Rotterdam Business School (RBS), will spend their fifth, sixth or seventh semester on internship, gaining practical experience in one of the many fields of international business and management. An internship is a key and compulsory part of the degree, and the internship requirements must be met in order to graduate.

Requirements starting an internship

To be able to do a good internship, it is important that you have sufficient knowledge and skills. To ensure that this is the case, we use the internship requirements as published in the Student Handbook.

Internship credits and length of your internship

You receive 30 ECTS for the internship. The minimum duration of the internship is 20 weeks (840 credit hours – fulltime).

Find your internship

You actively look for companies, call them, send application letters, or ask around in your own network. The internship coordinator has no internships lined up for you from which to choose. The internship may not fulfil your preferences 100% (in terms of, for example, the location or activities), but flexibility is important.

How do you find an internship?

  • Intouch – Company database.
  • Internet. There are numerous internship vacancy websites.
  • LinkedIn.
  • Teams:
  • Career events (internal and external RUAS).
  • Senior students and graduates can tell you about the company where they did their internship.
  • Your own network: family, friends, business acquaintances. (Keep in mind the criteria in terms of family!)
  • There are various internship mediation agencies that can facilitate an internship abroad. Although this is not the intention of the program, there are students who use these commercial mediation companies.
Semester(s) abroad

A semester abroad is part of the programme a student follows in semesters five or seven of his study. In these two semesters the student is able to choose out of different options for the semesters according to their needs. The options for the semesters are:

  • Internship abroad
  • Exchange abroad or Minor

Students in the Commerce specialisation must spend two semesters abroad, being Internship abroad and Exchange abroad. Students in the other specialisations must spend at least one semester in which they are abroad: Internship abroad or Exchange.

International students (EER / Non-EER) studying at the RBS can opt to do both Internship and Exchange in the Netherlands

Are you thinking about going abroad during your study programme? On this page you will find general information about studying or an internship abroad. We also give advice on how to go well-prepared abroad.

Contact

There is a general coordinator, module owner and internship supervisors for the internship. The general internship coordinator is responsible for providing general information on internships and is the first contact person for all IB students undertaking an internship until the students have been assigned an internship supervisor.
